“P*** off” – Dortmund fans say no to Mario Gotze return

Borussia Dortmund fans made their feelings towards former player Mario Gotze clear on Saturday, displaying a banner in reaction to a potential return to the club for the player wanted at Anfield.

A section of the home supporters held up a banner that read: “Milan or Madrid – the main thing is not Dortmund! P*** off Gotze.”

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke was quoted over the weekend saying that “the door remains open” to former players, but these protests would suggest Gotze will not be welcomed back in a hurry.

“Mario is Bayern’s player”, Watzke said.

“His contract runs until 2017 and I have not heard, neither from the club or him, that they wish to end their collaboration.

“Under the current conditions, this is not a topic for us. [But] for every player who has merits for this club the door remains open, no question about it.”

The Germany international was adored at the club as a youngster, blossoming into one of Europe’s most exciting attacking players, but he made a controversial switch to rivals Bayern Munich in 2013.

There he has struggled to nail down a place as a regular at Allianz Arena, however, and a move away this summer appears highly likely.

Liverpool are reportedly expressing strong interest in acquire the forward’s signature, linking up with former manager Jurgen Klopp in the process.

It feels like one of those transfer stories that may rumble on over the next month or two, but don’t be backing Gotze for a Dortmund return.
