Mamadou Sakho was in action for Liverpool’s under-23s again last night, playing the full 90 minutes as the young Reds drew 1-1 against Man United.
It was the Frenchman’s third appearance for the U23s, having played against Woflsburg and Ipswich Town in recent weeks.
That first appearance for the U23s occurred days after Sakho had taken to social media to criticise his lack of opportunity and not having been made available for the underage team.
Jurgen Klopp was unhappy with the defender’s public outburst and since then Sakho has been training with the under-23s instead of with the first-team at Melwood.
Commenting on Sakho after the 1-1 draw on Tuesday night, U23s boss Michael Beale praised Sakho’s attitude.
“Mama is training with us and he’s working hard every day,” said Beale.
“That’s the closest he’s looked to full fitness. A couple more games like that and we’ll see what happens from there.
“He was a good guide for young Tiago Ilori alongside him who seems to be in fine form too at the moment.”
That Sakho is now training with the U23s is telling, given that he had been training at Melwood prior to his outburst on Snapchat last month.
Speaking after that, Klopp said that it was “not positive” and that he would address the situation when the time is right.
The situation appears to have been addressed by completely freezing Sakho out.
