Liverpool academy defender joins Reds’ released list

Liverpool academy defender Tom Brewitt has announced his departure from the club, joining Adam Phillips on the Reds’ released list this summer.

Brewitt was named on the released list last summer but that was claimed to have been an administrative error and he went on to sign a new one-year deal, which expires at the end of this month.

Speaking to This Is Anfield last month, the 20-year-old centre-back spoke of his desire to play men’s football next season:

“For me, I want to be able to push into men’s football now. That’s the next step for me in the new season and will be my aim.

“That’s certainly going to be a challenge but I’m looking forward to it and I’ll see where that takes me.”

Brewitt announced the news of his departure on his Instagram on Monday, saying:

Time to announce that I’ll be leaving LFC after 10 years. From joining as a 10 year old I have had countless unforgettable experiences making lot of special memories and some real friends in both players and coaches along the way.

My goal when I joined was and always will be to play at the highest level whatever path that takes me down. Now it’s time to take the next step, into my senior career.

Hopefully one day I’ll be back.
