Liverpool agree club record fee for RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita

Liverpool have agreed a club record transfer fee for RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita, who will move to Anfield next summer.

The Keita transfer has been one of the most on-off in many years, but Liverpool finally have their man.

The Reds have been targeting the Guinean all summer, and it has now been confirmed that he will become a Liverpool player on July 1, 2018.

The 22-year-old completed a medical in Wilmslow on Monday morning, with news of the signing breaking in the early afternoon.

Liverpool had a £66 million bid for Keita turned down earlier in the summer, but Leipzig refused to sell.

The player has a £48 million release clause next year and had set his heart on a move to Merseyside and to join Jurgen Klopp‘s Reds.

Liverpool, then, have moved to ensure they get their man now by paying an additional undisclosed fee, to secure the transfer now.

An all-action box-to-box midfielder, Keita scored eight goals and assisted eight last season, in 32 appearances.

Liverpool are set for a blockbuster final few days of the transfer window, with a £60 million bid for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar being placed, and the Virgil van Dijk deal still very much alive.
