Mo Salah and Moreno back vs. Man City but Henderson still sidelined

Mohamed Salah and Alberto Moreno are back in training ahead of Liverpool’s visit of Man City to Anfield on Sunday, but captain Jordan Henderson remains sidelined.

Salah missed the wins over Burnley and Everton, having been the match-winner in his last appearance, against Leicester City on December 30.

The Egyptian has recovered from a muscle problem, however, which is a huge boost ahead of the Reds’ toughest home game of the season.

Moreno, meanwhile, has been absent since limping off in sad fashion against Spartak Moscow on December 6, after picking up an ankle injury.

His form had been excellent prior to that – arguably his best run in a Liverpool shirt – and he will battle with the in-form Andrew Robertson for a start this weekend.

Henderson’s return is still seemingly a way off, meaning Emre Can will again be tasked with the deep-lying midfield role against Pep Guardiola’s side.

Discussing Salah in his press conference at Melwood on Friday, Jurgen Klopp confirmed his return, as the Reds’ 23-goal man makes a very welcome comeback.

“He’s doing fantastically well. If nothing happens in this moment Mo is back,” he said.

Sunday’s visit of City should be quite a game, especially if last season’s 1-1 draw at the Etihad is anything to go by, when every player was out on their feet at the final whistle.

Salah’s pace and goal threat is going to be so important against the unbeaten league leaders, especially with Philippe Coutinho now a thing of the past, and Sadio Mane not at his very best.

Moreno is unlikely to start, given Robertson’s impressing recent showings and the fact he is not match fit, but he should be on the substitutes’ bench.
