Liverpool have been led through their paces in a training session in front of the media ahead of Tuesday night’s key Champions League clash against Napoli.
Jurgen Klopp knows only a win will do for the Reds, with 1-0 sending his side through to the last 16 or else any win by two goals.
The manager has one or two decisions to make over his squad, too, after three games in a week which saw plenty of rotation.
One of the biggest calls will be over the right-back position, with Trent Alexander-Arnold rested at the weekend.
James Milner played there against Bournemouth, but the youngster could be recalled given the Reds’ need to attack.
Virgil van Dijk will be charged with leading the defence to another clean sheet, with that being a huge part of the task which could see the Reds through.
Alongside him, Joel Matip should continue to deputise for the injured Joe Gomez after some fine recent performances, but Dejan Lovren is also back in training and potentially available.
Further forward, there’s a debate to be had for the midfield alignment and personnel.
Naby Keita‘s return to fitness is one option, while Milner and Jordan Henderson could be battling it out for one spot, as well as the captain’s armband.
Above all, though, Liverpool need goals on the night.
Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah are both one goal shy of Ian Rush’s haul of 14 European goals for the Reds; this would be a great fixture to match that tally in!
One positive for the Reds will be the array of options off the bench that Klopp will have, regardless of his starting XI.
Xherdan Shaqiri, Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi, Adam Lallana, Milner, Henderson and Alberto Moreno might all be considered options for later in the match—if they are even part of the squad, highlighting the depth available now.
It’s a big night for the Reds and Klopp will have some key decisions to make, before the first whistle and certainly before the final one.
Win and progress and it’ll be another memorable Anfield evening for supporters to remember across the years.
