Alisson has revealed the influence Roberto Firmino had in his decision to join Liverpool, following on from Fabinho‘s testimony back in May.
The goalkeeper has increased the Brazilian contingent in Jurgen Klopp‘s senior squad to three, while another awaits his breakthrough in Allan Rodrigues.
After the departures of Lucas Leiva and Philippe Coutinho, Firmino had been the sole representative of his nation left at Anfield.
But he has clearly played a key role in swelling the group, as Alisson told LFCTV how Firmino helped convince him to make the world-record £65 million move from Roma:
“I had spoken to him before things really started to happen.
“When the negotiations became official I spoke to him and I only heard good things about the club and the city.
“He is a player who feels really at home here. He is loved by the fans and really popular with his team-mates.
“He is a great person and only had positive things to say. He said if I were to come here I would be really happy as well.
“Putting our friendship to one side and the time we spent together with the national team, I’m really happy to be at the same club as him and have the same daily routine as him.
“Hopefully we can develop a great deal together.”
This is becoming a familiar situation with new signings, as Sadio Mane played a part in Naby Keita‘s transition from RB Leipzig and Mohamed Salah contacted Alisson, too.
And speaking on his £39 million switch from Monaco, Fabinho explained how he “was able to know a bit more about Liverpool through Firmino.”
With Klopp fostering a tight-knit squad, this is a great example of the positive atmosphere at the club—and this is clearly paying off with the calibre of players arriving.
